The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the year. With the industry being relatively unknown to me before I started I was completely unsure of what to expect. However, the team were really nice with an ideal office environment and the workload was well balanced. All in all, the year was a complete success
With actual work being set as oppose to bottom of the peg jobs it was really interesting to see how everything panned out in the bigger picture. Recognition was given every time a project was complete to the higher level and in general the office appreciated your work load in every job you did.
The management was great, in the first fortnight a full timetable was set up for you with meetings with existing employees giving you the information required to complete tasks along with tasks being planned for time and meetings with other departments. Further to this when I later struggled with task management a variety of solutions were offered to help me
The workload was perfect. Smaller tasks would come in regularly with a shorter deadline, but these were also checked with your current workload to make sure they weren’t snowing you under. Along with this there was larger drawn out tasks to fill in any time your day where you didn’t have enough tasks.
During my placement initially I was trained with everything and individual tasks were given to me to help them skills. However when skills are picked up the importance of the work increases throughout the year with some projects being solely responsible for. This was really good for the CV as well as gaining real experience
I have learnt so much in the year with basic skills such as the culture of the office, picking up phone calls and writing emails being useful. Further to this I have learnt design programmes such as the Adobe Suite and Quark. Market research and analysis has been taught throughout the year and this will be needed in my dissertation.
The Company
The office environment was perfect. Obviously work is the main priority however there is also a relaxed environment of which to do it in. If any help is needed everybody is really friendly and will come over to give you a hand. It isn’t just the placement students asking for help, everybody helps each other.

The graduate scheme places people across the world with an attractive programme running with it for leadership and management, From those I have spoke to on it they have all really enjoyed it and it is something I would definitely look at. They also rotate you to gain experience in more than one field, at more than one locations.
The Culture
Nights out in the department were organised often enough and with another placement student in the department along with a graduate there were also chances to socialise with these. The nightlife wasn’t great with no clubs in the actual town but there are a few nice pubs locally, notably the Astley Cross.
Stourport is a small town located near Kidderminster and a half hour from Worcester. Average rent for an ensuite room was £430 and Worcester is a University town so there are always cheap drink deals knocking around. Basically it's a load cheaper than living in London or another large city.
