The Role
I went into the placement looking forward to it and thinking I was going to have a really good time but as the placement drew on I found that I really wasn't enjoying myself and that I was always questioning whether I had made the right decision to go on a placement and even if I had chose the right degree subject. This was my first experience of work and now I am concerned over whether customer services is the industry I want to spend my career in. I must stress it was nothing to do with McDonalds as a company, it was more my personal feelings and disillusionment.
All the staff were lovely from day one but i didn't really make great friends with anyone as I wasn't really feeling in a chatty mood and I found that I was quite introverted in to myself. Basically, I was quite miserable. Though I did feel comforted when staff would talk with me and reassure me about the future and that it would get better.
It was made clear that if i wanted help I just had to go see my manager in his office and he was pleasant enough and friendly so I did feel I could go see him if ever i needed to. But I found that I never really felt like going to see him so I just tried to get on with my work quietly and unnoticed.
I was given a lot of the low level jobs to do so I always had little things to be getting on with.
I think as I was very quiet people thought I was struggling with my work which wasn't exactly true. Though I was glad they felt that as basically I just wanted the placement to be over with.
The placement was a big big eye opener for me and made me question and consider whether I had chosen the wrong degree and in doing so wasted so much money and years of my life studying it. I feel this is a big problem that goes unnoticed, people have no previous experience of the degree they sign up for so how do they know that they will actually like working in that industry?
The Company
Other people seemed to be having a good time and enjoying themselves but I just kept myself to myself mainly.
The HR department were very good and when I went to them with my problems they consoled me and reassured me. I can't praise them highly enough personally.
I dont know whether if id asked for further training whther I would have recieved more but as it stood i didn't really recieve any considerable training.

I'm not sure i'll ever work in a similar job for any company in the future.
The Culture
A lot of the staff were like best friends and always looking like they were enjoying themselves. I didn't really fit in any social scene with any other placement stdents or colleagues.
I lived with my mum and dad so it wasn't that expensive although I did have board taken out of my earnings.
Really good nightlife in London. Never a dull night.
I was glad to leave at the end of the working day never mind spending my spare time in any way connected to work.
