The Role
I honestly wouldn't recommend this placement to anyone. The training is rushed, and as soon as you're 'up to scratch' you get thrown in at the deep end effectively fulfilling the role of a full-time manager (with all the responsibility and pressure but with the terrible pay and no kind of perks).
Despite being given a million things to do, the management barely spoke to me and towards the end of my placement more or less blanked me all the time.
No kind of learning plan in place. 1 to 1 meetings were incredibly rare. Problems were fixed temporarily instead of dealing with the bigger issues.
Placed in charge of managing entire clients and was always completely rushed off my feet. Despite this, the management either were oblivious to the workload or didn't care and often tried to give me new tasks to perform.
Managed a number of clients by myself for most of the year. Too much responsibility considering the poor pay (especially with the placement being in central London).
Picked up some skills that will serve me well in the future. Doesn't make the placement worthwhile on balance though!
The Company
Good set of people on the whole, made some friends that I will keep in touch with.
Nothing in place to enhance the experience of interns.
Some token training videos were shown throughout the year, but these had little practical value. No real emphasis on training or development as an intern.
The possibility of a job in the future was mentioned, but I have no interest in returning.
The Culture
Quite a few other interns and a young office vibe (generally speaking). Plenty of night's out (always welcome after putting in plenty of unpaid over time).
The office is in central London and the cost of eating out/commuting/going for drinks is very high. The wage doesn't reflect this.
Plenty of options for pubs and bars, however many of them were far too expensive on the intern wage.
No activities other than drinking.
