Marketing and PR Intern (UK&I) Review

I was given a lot of support and responsibility throughout this internship, I loved the fact that I got to go to events and travel to european countries to meet the people that I work with. I feel like Teradata trust me to fulfill an actual job role and didn't expect me to make tea's and coffee's or stand by the photocopier for hours.

My manager relies on my support and trusts me to do the job. I have real responsibilities such as social media coverage and analysis, journalist liaisons, event management etc. I have gained experience in marketing and PR messaging, Press releases, social media, business, accounting and an understanding of how 'the real world' of business works. I am in regular contact with high level managers and even have the CEO as a friend on LinkedIn, it's these types of connections that make me feel even more valued at Teradata.

My Manager always takes it upon himself to teach me the ins and outs of everything. If I have a question he will stop what he is doing and take the time to teach me the answer. At the beginning of the year he asked me what I was particularly interested in, so he altered the job to ensure that I was able to do things that I wanted.

On a daily basis I have my usual social media coverage analysis to do, checking of emails, ensuring smooth running of any purchases we have made, taking calls etc. However each day is different with new and interesting tasks to do.

THIS IS A REAL JOB, there was no sitting around here. I had to do the things which were expected of me otherwise a knock on effect would be felt on the entire office.

I have learnt many things during this placement the main things are: Organisation. Attention to detail. Confidence. Never take the first offer and Network. Other useful skills that I have learnt: Excel, Newsdesk, Social media planning, Event management, Communication skills, Outlook, Business to Business marketing and PR techniques, Professionalism and sooo much more

The office is fairly quiet with a good work atmosphere. My team is lively and always up for social drinks and lunches. My manager always encourages fun to be had whilst working.

My placement was very well planned with regular reviews about how I'm doing and how I feel about the job. This allowed me to ask to do more in areas which I was interested in. This placement can easily be tailored to you.

Teradata has invested a lot in allowing me to attend media training, events abroad, meetings. I also get a great wage which allows me to live in London.

Lots of past students have gone on to get careers within Teradata in the UK and in Europe.

There is a good social scene within Teradata, we are good friends with the Interns in the building and I get on well with other colleges who take us out to quiz and beer nights.

London Bridge is a great area with loads of bars and restaurants. To live in London it comes at a premium but I live in South East London and get an overground train which takes 25 minutes which costs me 565 pounds per month. You can make London as expensive as you like, there are loads of free things to do in London!

London is incredible for nightlife. It's London.

I haven's personally looked because I always have loads of stuff to do but I know a lot of opportunities are available in sport, craft, fashion, charity work etc. Again, it's London.
