The Role
The placement so far has been able to put the theortical knowledge learnt at university into perspective by gaining experience of numerous systems; gaining more understanding on the response timing of devices, the electrical components embbedded, software capabilities and limitation, conversing with colleagues globally via emails and conference calls. The compentences gained and exercised throughout the placement has helped me not only gain experience but developed me as well rounded individual. All in all working for VIsteon has been a phenemonal experience and has really broaden my horizons.
All colleagues from different departments to overseas regional departments are willing to support and go through demos to support your learning process. From experience, colleagues are willing to spend time to help you get to grips with indepth technical details of undergone to complete a task sucessfully. It had been a privelege to setup-up, construct automated scripts and provide data that can be used to satisify the customer, haven been given the opportunity was highly respectible and greatly appreciated.
All support requested shall be given if time has been allocated in their calender provided their free. Regardless whether it's a manager, supervisor, a colleague in your department all the members at visteon are warm welcoming and willing to help, as long as your willing to ask. My supervisor provided continous supervision throughtout the placement, prompting me to discuss problems i found during my projects and bringing forward ideas to the team. My supervisor has taught me comptencies i will definitly need to develop further for my career and as an individual. All in all gudiance is constantly accesible at Visteon.
There is always something to do but understanding what is a prority and making time for the other task may be sometimes overloading, but ultimately busy from when you enter the office to when you leave. There is never nothing to do.
I had been given the responsibility to get into contact with suppliers, find quotes and measure the equipment tools capability. Gathering data to buy better equipment, gain greater understanding of the systems used during tetsing and running automated test caseses for products in production and reporting back to the relevant department. Although I'm a student, expectations hadn't differed from permanent employees.
My role on placement had been to validate automotive parts, validate the applications used to test the products, report defects, carry out continuous research, conform to a global standard, understanding the tools capability when running test cases, electronic limitations, the importance of a configuration plan, how to put forward a requisition and participating in global conference calls. Choosing to do a placement with Visteon has been one of the stepping stones in the development of my career. I’ve managed to develop my interpersonal skills, adapt to rapid changes within a life product cycle, manage time accordingly to project deadlines and build professional relationships globally etc. In any organisation these foundations are desirable and can only be developed through experience. Overall, the modules undertaken by the course had supplied me with the foundations necessary for industry; working within the industry has put into perspective real world challenges and developed my vehicle knowledge considerably. All in all the experience has been phenomenal and would strongly recommend a placement year for those in doubt.
The Company
All colleagues are focused during work hours but occasionally briefly may discuss common problems and have a slight break. Everyone is fairly easy going but gets the job done at the end of the day. Your not monitored and there are times where you can have good old laugh. It's fortunate to work with intelligent, easy-going and homours colleagues.
A plan is always put into place but in every case these plans are changed according to priority. Visteon being a company that adapts to market trends highlighted by customers is a priority. Outlining what is expected of me and the skill which are key to develop is the underlying reasons for attending
I'm unable to provide a specific value but what is certain, training happens continously as products become more advanced and new innovations are introduced. The company has invested alot of time and efforts throught the year which has influenced and enchanced my technical understanding in the electronical and software fields

Currently, I have been contracted to finish my placement at the end of june. But i've been asked to stay for an extra month to teach the new student which is promising, however, it cannot be guranteed and would be a privelege to return after graduation.
The Culture
Fortunately, all the placement students are bubble and easier going. There where times where conflict may arise due to difference in character. Learning how to deal with different personalities is a skill which is desireable and bound to arise but knowing how to work arround difference to get the job done. There's a stage where you get passed the a storm period and it becomes easy going as you start to understand each other personalities. All in all all the students are great.

Chelmsford has many bars, resturantes, clubs and social events for a good night out. Chelmsford being a fairly small but resonable size has near enough everything you would get in a busy town like london. For me it's a small version of London because similar stores can be located but it's more compact.
Yes throught the year there a countless events from bike riding and running sponsorships, raffles, fancy dress, own close day. The are mutiple activities free for employess ranging from learning langauges to bootcamping etc.
