    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The software validation placement role at Visteon was a great opportunity to learn a variety of skills and gain real industry experience. Efforts were made to ensure that I could get as much of the learning processes as well as get involved to work on many live projects. There is room to decide what path the placement takes and however big (or small) you want to be involved is what you get out of it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team were always willing to listen to suggestions and actually implement the ideas where necessary.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The whole team were very approachable and always have time to help you and/or point you in the direction of somebody who can.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Through a mixture of on-going year-long tasks and various deadlines, there is always something to do. It was not the perfect balance but this is not always a bad thing. It can improve time management skills where you are able to actively meet deadlines or give yourself required rest so that you can be more productive; It was good to learn how to set the balance.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There was freedom to solve problems if one arises, for example using the automation test tools; going through the process of setting up test benches, talking to suppliers, ordering equipment, shipping equipment, running automated tests and creating reports for fellow colleagues or sometimes customers. I also had the responsibility of trying the first of the new tools brought in, learning how to use them, making the necessary mistakes and training the teams on how to use it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed include both technical and professional skills. These will definitely help me during my further study and throughout my career. These include improvements to communication, C programming, writing effective test scripts. using automation tools and increased knowledge of PC systems. Also time management and prioritization.
