The Role
I am thoroughly enjoying the placement as you do get to work on real work which does get published for the rest of the company to see. The team around me is brilliant as well which makes the work easier as you can have a hand at any time you require.
Very, as i was assigned tasks by my manager in order to take a work load from him. This just highlighted that i was trusted to do the work for the Chief Engineers as well as the Directors. Furthermore the company gave me a prize as a thank you for producing files quickly for their meetings.
At the start of the placement i had a handover from the previous students, this allows you to ask questions while you go through the work thoroughly. Also i was handed a work placement student handbook which had my monthly jobs written up for me so if i was ever in doubt i always had that to rely on. The managers always supported me and answered the questions if i had for him.
Monthly jobs meant that i had specific tasks to do daily. These tasks were longer than some. During the start and the middle of the month i would be usually quite busy due to the deadline which i have to meet, but near the end of the month it would become more relaxed. However, i was assigned different tasks for different managers on a monthly basis which meant that i had extra work to do than my normal day to day jobs.
I was assigned of my own jobs, but mainly i had to produce 2 files during the course of the month which included Expenses and Income from different countries around the world, which would be published by me when i receive all the information that i need. This file was very important as many more files were produced from this file. Also i had meetings with directors which gave me a better insight into the company and how it was run.
I used a lot of Excel during my placement, and as we all know Excel is a very powerful tool. The macros in excel will assist me in the final year for my project. Excel in generally is a very good thing to have on your CV as most systems use Excel and due to my capabilities which i learnt over my placement, i feel this will get me a slight advantage over other people.
The Company
It was always positive and energetic. The team will group together in the morning and will tend to go downstairs for breakfast as a team. This just builds all the relationships between the team and allows a smoother process when it comes to work.
It was very well organised. There was enough room to maneuver around the building and the tables were all close by together, so if you needed anyone, you could just have to stand up and you can communicate with the rest of your team.
They ran classes for free during lunch hours so you can progress in other fields such as learning a different language or having boot camps.

Due to a takeover of a different company, the numbers have doubled since, so to reduce the costs they had to also reduce the numbers inside each office.
The Culture
Yeah it was great as many placement students lived around the area, so they would have their general Friday night gatherings and going out.
I lived at home, so it did not cost me as much. However, the housing from other placements students, they said it was very reasonable.
Chelmsford has a vibrant night life on a weekend. There are few Bars/Pubs which you could pop down to.
Yes they had a committee which done different tasks outside work for charity.
