The Role
I enjoyed it so much that I don't want the experience to end.
I can honestly say that I've never worked anywhere where everyone was so passionate about what they were doing and I've been working for 20 years (not all interns are in or just out of university/college). Everyone that I was working with gave praise on the tasks I was involved in. It was a very positive environment,.
I've had my eyes opened to just how many differnt tasks that fundraising managers have to do and how committed they are. The fact that everyone is so busy but will always make time to assist with queries and tasks was very appreciated. There's a wealth of information and training available; just not enough time to make the most of it all.
I was kept busy but there was never a feeling of being under pressure or stressed about what had to be achieved. People were happy about what was done rather than having issues with what hasn't been done.
I felt I was a member of the team and that they trusted me to carry out tasks that I wouldn't initially have been expecting to be doing. I never felt overwhelmed by what I was asked to do and I know that if I wasn't comfortable with something then they would have had no problem in me not doing certain tasks. I'm just someone who likes to have lots of different challenges.
This internship has reconfirmed to me that I made the right decision in leaving my last emplpyment and making a change to being something that helps people more.
The Company
I was home based but we did meet up so not isolated in any way.
I had a work plan supplied by my manager which we agreed on and had regular updates on. There was also an internship manager that was also in contact to ensure everything was ok and who arranged a mentor for me. The mentor scheme was also an added bonus as I had the opportunity to learn more about even more areas of the organisation.
I was very surprised to find out that as well as a manager I would also have a mentor. As a home worker I was also supplied with a laptop and Blackberry when I had thought I'd have to use my own laptop. I also had the opportunity to attend speaker training and allowed to attend regional meetings. I was made to feel part of the team even though the internship was only for 12 weeks.

I was encouraged to apply for a job that came up but unfortunately with my dad being terminally ill I'm not currently able to commit to full time work. From everything I've heard there are a lot of interns who go on to full time employment within Macmillan so it seems there are a lot of opportunities there.
The Culture
Due to my location and home working I wasn't able to take part in the social activities but this was available for the other interns that were more centrally and office based.
I worked from home so don't really feel that this comes into play as it's my normal environment
