    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved working at Macmillan. I have wanted to work specifically there for a long time and when the opportunity arose I had to grab it.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • If you work/volunteer/intern at Macmillan you will all know that everyone there is extremely friendly and respectful. After completing jobs it was great as I would be given lots of feedback from the project manager on where I went right and also where I could improve.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were amazing. I was given one to one sessions so I could go through any queries I had. They have been extremely helpful with finding jobs, going for interviews, they have taken time out to give be guidance and feedback even though I am not interning there anymore.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I felt at times I could have been busier, coming from an event environment with a smaller company I have noticed a difference with how busy everyone is. Things are at a much slower pace. I would have liked more work and perhaps work that I could have put my own stamp on to show that I had done alot there.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Similar to the question above, as I felt I could have more work I felt I could have more responsibility.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained invaluable experience at Macmillan. Before when I was applying for jobs I wasn't getting interviews and now that I have done the internship I have had 5....ok I still need to work on my interview skills but it is getting there!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is very friendly and happy to speak to you. It can be quieter than I am used to where my office is much smaller and there is music always playing so a more busier atmosphere for myself personally could have been better. A lot of the time people sit with two headphones in so it was quite hush hush.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was a bit of a rollercoaster, I had my ups and downs where I felt it was organised and then I felt like It was difficult for me to get jobs when to me a timetable or schedule should have been in place so I would always have had something to do.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship manager is fantastic and really helpful and wants you to succeed in your internship. They set out an induction day and also a training day which included cv and interview skills help so this was very useful.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • So far I have had 3 interviews for jobs there and I am always very close with each one. I have been told to keep applying though so fingers crossed I can get a job there.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I didn't really see other interns at all. A facebook type group was set up however no-one participated in using it. This could be improved on. We did have a pub quiz one night which was great! Perhaps 1 every month would have been better for interns like myself who wasn't working with any others.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London things are not easy and certainly not cheap! I have moved south london so that I can afford rent whilst I am unable to succesfully get a full time job. Macmillan did cover my travel and lunch costs which did help as it would cost £9 a day to travel to the office.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The office isnt in the most social of areas and I didnt experience any of it whilst I was there as I finished work earlier than normal.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wasnt given the opportunity to do any socialising or activites outside of work.
