    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Macmillan. The project that my internship was designed around was well thought out and I was really made to feel welcome within my team. I have had an opportunity to shadow other teams and learn from them, which will really help me going forward to start my career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much! I was made to feel really welcome within the team by being invited to socials and always included within conversation. Everyone has been so friendly and I often get complimented on my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always there when I needed her but also felt confident enough in me that she let me get on with my work.Whenever I needed help she was there with great guidance and never once made me feel that I couldn't ask for help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of the project I was working on, the amount of work I had depended on the stage of the project. However, when there was little work to do my manager and I came up with some interesting things for me to do to further improve the project and to keep me busy. There were times that I was very busy, but I was able to cope with the workload and I know that it could have been lessened if I wanted it to be.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The project I was working on was done by solely myself and I was responsible for it. I was given enough guidance that I could really do what I wanted with the project and feel confident that what I was doing was correct and would be beneficial to Macmillan.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having recently graduated before the start of my internship, I was looking to begin my career and get some experience before applying to my first "career" job. The team were so helpful in tailoring my work to fit what I wanted to do in the future. On top of this, I was also given a mentor from another team more relevant to my desired line of work. I was able to shadow this team to get a real feel for what it is like to work in that role and was also put in contact with someone who has connections at many companies for whom I would be intersted in working for in the future which is so valuable to have!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very laid back - I have never met a nicer group of people in a workplace! The atmosphere was relaxed (jeans and trainers are common) and everyone was very social. There were also many after work socials/trips to the pub which was great!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was set up incredibly well. My internship had been well thought out from start to finish. There were also schemes in place such as mentors that allowed for the internship to be tailored to me as an individual.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have atteneded a couple of training days which have been great. There is also an intern training day that focuses on CV writing and interview skills so that you can feel confident when applying for your next job. Although, places on training courses are given to paid staff as a priority so there is sometimes problems getting places on a course, but I think this is something that they are looking at.

  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'm applying for a role within Macmillan after my intership as it has been a great place to work and I know many other interns are looking to do the same.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was an intern email list that we used to organise socials amongst ourselves. I was also invited to team lunches and the team's christmas party. There are also many opportunities to go for after work drinks!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I live in London the cost of living and socialising is obviously higher than other parts of the country.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a pub that people tended to go to after work for drinks on occasion, other than this I am not sure. Although London in general is pretty good if you don't mind spending a little bit of money!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Macmillan have many social clubs e.g. yoga, choir, sports clubs.
