The Role
I throughly enjoyed my Internship, as it re-enfocred my understanding of the sector.
Although 40yrs old, i felt that my colleagues were respectful of my situation and ability to adapt to the new environment quickly. I know that i was respected and well thought of during my time working wqith them on their projects.
I have volunteered for other chairites, so my knowledge fo the volunteer sectors and other areas fo chairty working enhanced the area i worked in, although i needed soem guidance in the first couple of week, i was allowed to led on two projects, supported from a distance by my line manager.
I was programmed for three days a week, during two of the projects this increased to five/six days in the week to ensure that the programme was delivered in line with the deliver shedule.
understanding social media and its impact on laucnch event, i was given the led in the social meida week and the coverage on social meida for the Woolverstone Macmillan centre in ipswich. A huge responsibilty and delivered with exceptional results.
being able to demonstrate my social media skills within a real workplace. gave me the confidence to include this on my CV and Applications for future job vacancies.
The Company
As remote worker, the office was never there. so lone working is rather difficult, often most of the time working from home alone and isolated.
it took a little while for the IT to catch up, but in the end it worked well and was managed effectively by my line manager Mandy.
Apart from the Induction H&S training and lone working modules online. there was very little other training provided in this short intership programme.
Flexi Time
Working from home
Although Macmillan have a network of oppertunities, it is still a competivite market to enter as an intern. But there are some good oppertunities,.
The Culture
As i was unable to attedn the Induction day, i missed being introduced to any of the other regional students on induction. However our final wash up day is coming up and thre is a social drink sesison afterward in london,
As i own my own home, my costs for social living and socialising are expensinve, as i live in Ipswich Suffolk, SOme communting trips to london are a expensive day out for non charity activities.
NONE, i was unable to socialise due to other commitments.
I already had activities to engage in, as i worked from home, so i did not relocate to another area.
