  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt very valued and integrated in the the team. Right from day one they are friendly and welcoming, give you an actual role with real responsibility and support you throughout your placement. Also was nice to be included in team lunches and social events after work from the beginning. Working with and getting to know my colleagues were one of my highlights during placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and buddy were sat right next to me in the office so always there is if had any questions or needed help on a day to day basis. I would also had weekly/fortnightly catch up meetings with my manager to discuss progress, workload, development and any other issues I had. My manager was also very approachable and I also felt comfortable reaching out to my wider team and colleagues for extra guidance aswell. I also would have monthly one to one meetings with my director.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The nature of my finance role meant that throughout the month there are naturally some days that are very busy with lots of deadlines (usually around month end when most of our reporting needs to be produced), and other days that tend to be quieter and you can catch up on things that were not as much a priority during the busy periods. My manager was very good as helping me balance my workload and prioritise to ensure I didn't become overloaded or bored at any time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was really suprised at how much responsibilty I was given, however I really appreciated it as it challenged me in a positive way and allowed me to achieve more than I first expected too. It made me feel like a true employee who was valued and relied up and was contributing to the team and the company overall.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Now that I am back to my final year at university, I can already tell I am looking at things in a different way due to the skills I developed on placement. It has really increased my commercial awareness.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good atmosphere in the office, had the right amount of professionalim and formalness yet you still felt relaxed and comfortable taking time to go and talk to other colleagues, aswell as taking breaks to have coffee and lunch with them.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised by the campus team. You get gjven the structure and timeline of events right from day one and they are always getting in touch to let you know of upcoming things for the placement or if there are any problems you may have. Any formal assessment type parts to the placement such as the end of year presentation was discussed early on so you had time to prepare and get support through it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Aswell as in house training (e.g. on the different departments of the company, their business model, products/services offered and latest challenges and upcoming invedtments) they brought in two external trainers who gave us a whole/half day training workshop; one to improve presentation skills and one for excel skills. These were really valuable.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in brighton which has fairly high living costs in terms of rent and accomodation. Cost of socialising is very mixed and there are some very nice upmarket bars which tend to be expensive but there are much cheaper pubs, bars and clubs as it is a big student area. It really depends on what you are looking for, and it is still much cheaper than central london.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Brighton is a big student area so has a pretty good nightlife. There are lots of pubs, clubs and nightlife all of different tastes and price ranges. Also has the brighton fringe and comedy festival each year, as well as lots of music events/gigs and the grest escape music festival each summer. Brighton also offers lots of cultural things such as thestre plays if that's more to your taste.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, lots of social events such as team lunches and drinks, we had a team howling afternoon. Also had an annual treasure hunt for all finance employees across the comoany and volunteering days.
