The Role
So far I am really enjoying my placement as it is giving me a great insight into such a large company. It is giving me a great oppurtunity to put to test some of the skills I have learnt at university into practice, especially my mathmatical and statistical abbilties.
Since day 1 I've felt very welcomed by my team and fellow collegues, and I feel like I can go to any of them for some advice on an issue, not just my manager or my 'buddy', but everyone is very easy to get along with
Support and guidance are given on a regular basis, especially if thats what you want. Supervisor's are always there to give you feedback if you need it or to help you along in the right direction.
My daily tasks differ day to day, some days I'm a bit quiter and sometimes I'm extremely busy, it all depends on what time of the year/month it is and, obiviously, what tasks you have on
Reposnibilty grows depending on your ability to do the job. Therefore, the more you put in and show that you can do the job, the more responsiblity you get from your manager.
The skills I have picked up will greatly benefit me in my degree as I have picked up a greater understanding of the economic world as a whole, and the technical skills in accounting and on the PC will greatly help me in the future
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was pretty relaxed, as long as you get the work done, but this can change when certain times of the month coming rolling round
The placement has been organised pretty well, as the campus recurtiment team are always around if you need help relating to the placement. They set up numerous team building days for the interns which are always a lot of fun as it really lets you bond as a group
There are numerous oppurtunites for training in certain aspects and I feel that they do help you greatly to develop as a person and in your role. Whether it be training on excel or social development in the form of networking, everything is catered for
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Future employment oppurtunities are extremly appealing as you meet superviors on numerous occasions and this is what you know you want to get to
The Culture
The campus team set up numerous events so that the interns could bond after work. There are also the odd team events that help you bond with your team in an out of work enviornment
Brighton is an expensive place to live, its very similar to London in some cases, however, as its a uni town, the socialising aspect is very cheap
Decent
There are a lot of activities within Amex that let you get invovled in activites outside of work, whether this be through the health club or through the numerous networks that are there to be joined
