    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As a Social Media Intern, I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Macmillan. I had full support during the 3 months I spent at Macmillan. My internship taught a range of skills and having had this 3 month experience, I feel a lot more confident about dealing with change and learning how to solve potentially challenging problems.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At a busy time, I felt my colleagues needed me and they appreciated my time and help. I got on well with all of my team and they were a pleasure to work with. I also met so many people from different teams who also appreciated my time and effort, and it was great to get to know such a wide range of people with such a diverse variety of skills.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was taught in detail what I needed to know, but any questions I did have were answered. I never felt like I couldn't approach my supervisor(s), they were willing to help with everything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning of the internship, I was getting to grips with the social media platforms I had to use, hence I was given less of a work load to complete. However, as the internship continued I was given a perfect balance of work to complete. My supervisor(s) also reminded me to tell them if I felt under too much pressure or had too much work

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a lot of responsibility during my internship, I ran the social media for Coffee Morning with the support of my colleagues. I am very satisfied that I have experienced this responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt and developed so many of my skills, but for example, meeting deadlines and organisation were very important skills I learnt at university and my internship reiterated and emphasized how important these skills were.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As a charity, the atmosphere is always lively and happy. People gain a satisfaction from helping people, and Macmillan does a wonderful for job for those living with cancer. It's great to be a part of this.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My internship was very organised and I always knew which stage I was at during the 3 months. With regular contact from the person that organised my internship, I was constantly updated with what I should be doing and when. My supervisor had a specific project for me with certain tasks.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was trained in what I was doing and could ask any questions I wished. In terms of personal development, my supervisor was always checking up what I wanted to develop and if there was anything else I wanted to gain from my internship. I was also allowed to shadow any other department of my choice.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there were 50 plus of us, I got to and meet a number of other interns. We had social officers who organised socials for us. This was great as we could share the positives (and maybe negatives if there were any!) about our experience among one another. I also found out about what they were doing which was great.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the office was situated in Vauxhall, inevitably local areas of London were expensive. However, Macmillan reimbursed my travel and lunch expenses making it a lot easier for me! When we went out on intern socials, the socials officers chose places that everyone could afford, so that everyone could attend.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London is famous for its lively nightlife. Even though some areas can be pricey, there is such a diverse variety of where to go, that there is almost too much to choose from!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I received many emails about doing sponsored walks, runs, even an employees sports day.
