The Role
I really, really enjoyed it, everyone there was so nice and I was given just the right level of responsibility, so I was able to get really involved in my tasks.
When I first arrived, everyone was really friendly and welcoming, offering to show me the ropes and to give me an insight into their role. After settling in, everyone was still nice, but treated me like any other colleague, which was great as it made me feel really integrated.
I was given lots of support from my manager, who set me up with relevant people within the organization who I wanted to meet, and who also helped me to develop my CV. In terms of guidance, my tasks were always well explained to me, and my managers were really approachable so it was easy to ask questions.
On some days, I didn't have quite enough work to do, but it general I had a really good balance, often with lots of little tasks to be getting on with.
Lots of responsibility - from my first week, I was going to meet clients and I was talking to them on the phone. This made the role really interesting as I felt like I was really achieving something. While I did get lots of guidance if I needed it, many task were ultimately left up to me.
The internship role itself doesn't really apply to my degree (Economics), but my manager and mentor set me up with a couple of people in the finance department to talk about future careers, which was so helpful! In terms of general skills, I developed many of these as my manager focused a lot on working on my relevant career skills i.e. teamwork, leadership, communication etc
The Company
Really friendly, everyone would say hi to each other and hold doors open for each other etc. I was in a really big office in London, but even so, everyone managed to be very polite, and I was never intimidated my senior management. Employees would bring in cakes and biscuits for each other almost everyday, which was a great addition to the office! Although we worked throughout the day, we also chatted about other things sometimes, which was great in getting to know each other - my colleagues even got me a birthday card!
We had an internship induction day at the beginning of the internship, which was really useful because it allowed me to get to know the other interns, and to learn everything I needed to know about Macmillan. The internship also gave us the chance to organise intern socials, which were really fun! We are about to have a wrap-up day to say goodbye to all of the interns, and all of these factors made me feel really valued.
Lots, all of my colleagues went out of their way to give me advice and where possible, to set me up with people they knew who could help me with my career path. This was really nice, and I learnt a lot about applying to careers in finance. My manager helped me with my CV and looked at potential graduate schemes I wanted to apply to, in order to develop my skills around those job specifications. Macmillan also offers all interns a mentor, who focuses solely on personal development.

Pretty appealing - before working here, I was curious about the charity sector but ultimately wanted to apply for a job in finance. I still want a graduate scheme in the financial sector, but once I have done that I would be very interested in working for Macmillan.
The Culture
There were lots of other interns in the London office so I had lots of people to socialise with. We all got along really well, and there was a group of 5-6 of us that all ate lunch together, which was really nice! Social interns were also appointed to organise social events for the interns, which were so fun!
I didn't live in Vauxhall (where the office is), but in my parents house about 20 miles out of London so this doesn't apply to me really, but being London, everything was pretty expensive.
I wouldn't know as I didn't go out, but London has lots of variety obviously.
There were lots of these - my colleagues encouraged me to join the charity netball team, which a lot of the office was already involved with. The interns also organised socials in the evening so those were the main activities that I attended.
