The Role
I very much enjoyed it
I was made to feel very welcome by all those working within Macmillan, especially members of my team.
I had a weekly catchup meeting where I updagted my supervisor on what I had been working on that week, I was given the opportunity to tell her if I felt I could cope with the workload, if there was anythign else I'd perfer to be doing and generally whether I was enjoying the internship or not.
I was a good level of busy. Some days were busier than others but if I ever felt that I had too little to do I was able to mention this to a member of my team and they would find me another job. I also often took on tasks that I wasnt asked to but that I felt would add to the work we were doing,
a great deal. On my firsr day I was asked to read an article and write a review for the department of health website which I was excited about. Obviously the post was edited heavily by my superiors but as that was the first interaction I'd had with Macmillan and the Dept of Health that was to be excpected.
I mentioned some of the skills I would like to improve in my interview for this internship and those skills were weaved into my work plan over the course of the next few months. I gained project managment skills, organisational skills, event planning skills, academic writing skills etc.
The Company
Every week there was a fun event or occurance to liven up the office. Everyone is very relaxed at Macmillan and it is not a formal atmosphere unless it needs to be. Free tea and coffee make you feel like you're at home.
One of the first things I noticed about this internship was how well organised it is. You can tell that my team regularly take on interns as they create work plans for you and introduce you to everyone who walks by, they give you advice and general summaries about Macmillan etc. All of the induction tasks were effortlessly carried out and you really feel that they want you to get the best out of the internship.
Obviously there are boundaries as I am not a permanent member of staff but I was invited to attend talks/events, I was put in charge of scouting out venues for one of our upcoming events, I was taught how to set up a teleconference and how to use survey software that I was not previously familiar with.

Future employment within Macmillan is very appealing, however currently there are not really any roles available that I would be interested in taking, hopefully I will be back in the future.
The Culture
Interns organised social events as did teams within my department.
Vauxhall is not necessarily cheap but as lunch expenses are paid for by Macmillan this was never too much of a problem.
We had a climbing social in my first week and then proceeded to a wine bar afterwards which was really fun.
Always something going on!
