    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had the opportunity to undertake lots of different tasks so developed a range of skills and never got bored!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all lovely and really made an effort to make me feel welcome.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly catch-ups with my line manager, fortnightly meetings with my mentor and support from the internships officer at Macmillan when needed

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depended on the day! Sometimes there were lots of meetings, other days there weren't any at all but on balance it worked out and I had enough time to get the work I had been set done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I was given quite a lot of responsibility but my line manager was also very supportive :)

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As mentioned, I have been given the opportunity to do so many different tasks, including writing a report and presenting this to my team. These tasks really helped develop a range of skills, and also my confidence.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quite a relaxed atmosphere though fairly quiet - found this a little intimidating at first but after a day or two I was very grateful for it! Also there are small social events too, for example once a month a different department will bring in cakes/snacks etc for their floor in the office which was a great opportunity to meet people.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well structured internship programme - there was a whole day induction and there will be a wrap up session. Even during the internship we had an interns social - it was lovely to get to know the other interns a bit better :)

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are formal training opportunities available at Macmillan but members of staff get priority to attending these and they fill up fast. However I set up inductions with several employees who work in different departments in Macmillan which I found really useful - it's such a big charity with so many different job roles available and people were more than willing to meet up and explain what sort of work they do. So although this wasn't formally organised, at Macmillan I found that if you wanted to develop and learn about different things you are generally able to organise this.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am currently still at university but would definitely be interested in applying for a position here in the future!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! There were team lunches, break-out times once a month with lots of food and intern socials/fundraisers

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As we were in central London this was quite expensive but we found places which weren't too expensive. Also Macmillan covered lunch expenses up to £5 which was plenty.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Central London so lots of nightlife but a bit expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes lots of fundraising opportunities!
