The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Macmillan and it's been a really valuable experience for future employment.
My department s quite small (7 other people) so I got to know everyone quickly and felt comfortable asking any of them for help.
My line manager was very helpful offering guidance and chasing up my questions. I also had a member of staff outside of my own department working as a mentor, who again was helpful and offered constructive advice.
Most days I had project work or research to do. There were a few quiet afternoons (like when I'd just finished a project) but I found things to do on the Macmillan skills website.
I was wholly resposnible for researching, writing and completing my two projects. I liked having my own project to work on at my own pace - as the only intern in the department I was fully responsible for it.
I'd never worked in an office before coming to Macmillan so it was a good experience to have. I also developed my office, IT and administration skills. I've already finished my degree so can't say it the internship assisted my degree.
The Company
Office was busy but calm most days - there was a buzz but it was never stressful. On Fridays it was much quieter as some people took the day off or went home early - having said that though I only had worked one Friday in the office.
At the beginning I had an induction with all the other interns which set out what the internship was for.
There's a really good online learnzone, "lunch & learn" training sessions and a mentoring scheme - all of which I took advantage of. However, it wasn't pushed on you - these facilities were there if you wanted to pursue them. It's more about choosing to do the personal development activties yourself.

I would definitely consider working with Macmillan in the future.
The Culture
I made friends with some other interns on my floor and we often go to lunch together. There have been a few social events for all of the interns but as I don't live in London I haven't attended any.
I don't live in London and commute in, but London rents are famously expensive.
Never gone out in London, again as I don't love here.
There are exercise sessions like yoga at lunch but I didn't get involved.
