    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Aon. I learnt a lot and found the people in my team to be very helpful and got along with them well. I was exposed to far more than I anticipated, for example being taken to out of office research meetings with fund managers and encouraged to have input during these meetings.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The amount that I could add to the team was obviously fairly limited as an unexperienced intern. This said I felt my colleagues appreciated me being there to, at times, take the load off them with regards to very admin type tasks (e.g. spreadsheets and data transfer). They always said thank you and fed back when work was done well/ how to improve.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At every stage I felt I could ask questions and they made good efforts to ensure that I got exposure to the areas I wanted to do more in. They checked with me regularly to see how I was coping with work load or whether I needed more to do.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy but not stretched. It's up to you to ask for more work if you need it but it definitely isn't piled on.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As expected the amount of responsibility they can give an intern is limited. I was trusted with work that would be sent directly to the client or with drafting monitoring reports and meeting notes that would be used internally. All of this work was checked by someone else before being sent off/ used though!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Won't help that much in my degree but I have learnt a lot about the investment industry and feel the knowledge I have gained will prove invaluable in furthering the early stages of my career.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was quite fun. Everybody works hard but people made jokes and discussed other things at times.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised. With training days at the start and real efforts made to get all the interns to know each other. Deadlines for the intern charity project were set out from the very beginning and our briefs were very clear. At no point was I unsure what I was meant to be doing or where I was meant to be.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training days at the start. Lots of opportunity to sit down and ask questions with senior and experienced members of the team

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to work at Aon in the future. I feel positive about my performance but will find out in a few weeks!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were drinks after work with colleagues and other interns at least once/twice a week. No shortage of opportunities to socialise and felt I got to know some people really well over the course of the summer.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London's expensive. to be expected

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has a great nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there a few different sports leagues (football, netball) and all the interns were involved in a charity project.

    4/5
