The Role
I really enjoyed this internship.
Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, I felt that any work I did was appreciated.
My manager was fantastic and gave me all the support that I needed. She wrote me out a clear development plan, we had regular meetings and she was always happy to help with any questions I had.
I was always kept busy which I really liked.
I felt like I was given the right amount of responsibility for my position as an intern.
I gained very valuable skills and a great deal of knowledge into how policy and public affairs departments work in a large charity.
The Company
Everyone worked very hard but still managed to have a laugh.
I was very impressed with how organised my internship was. My provisional work plan and development plan were prepared before I started. We then discussed these and I was given the option to add to them if there were specific skills that I wanted to develop,
There were lots of opportunities for development given to me. There was also the option of going on day training courses that were run over the course of the internship.
Working from home
My internship lead to a permanent job with Macmillan.
The Culture
We had a social sec who organised lots of different things for us all to do together. My directorate also had 'wine o clock' most Fridays.
I didn't live in the area but being in London drinks are quite pricey but some places are cheaper than others.
There wasn't great nightlife in Vauxhall but it's so close to lots of places where there is great nightlife.
There were lots of activities to get involved in outside of work like sports teams, pub quizzes, fundraising events etc.
