    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I didn't know what to expect prior to starting but from the word go I loved every minute of it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I settled in fairly quickly and even before that I I felt very valued by my department. As the months went by, I also felt valued by other members of the business. Especially those who I worked with on a regular occurrence.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout the year I was supported by my team, manager and several others in my wider team. They were always happy to help, even when they were extremely busy.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very very busy, in a good way. I had never experienced business like this before but it was a great way to experience real working life. It also made the days, weeks and months go quickly. I really don't know where the time went.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • After three months I was given a lot of responsibility. People within the team / business treated myself like a graduate employee rather than somebody on an internship. I honestly don't think I could have asked for more responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Before I started my placement I'd obviously learnt about HR through text books, case studies etc. But by completing this placement I enhanced some skills I already had but I also learnt new skills that I will take away for the rest of my life. I learnt these skills through existing employees, courses and archived material. I also learnt a vast amount about recruitment, employee relations, HR best practices, law, business and politics and more!!!! Arguably some of which I may not have learned in University. Furthermore what I learned throughout my placement will help me during my last year and beyond that.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There were four floors and each floor way completely different. My floor was lively at times but due to working in HR there was a privacy element. I'd be lying if I didn't say at times I felt quite secluded because of where I was sat. With that said it was nice at times to be on a quiet floor and everyone is lovely.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very structured. I worked with a team which had a great history of using industrial placement students. I think ultimately this helped build the structure I was in, one of which I enjoyed and found more than useful. I was also able to offer improvements too which was good for future students.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended a lot of courses which were all enjoyable. My department always said that as long as I was free I could attend any related courses which was fantastic for myself.

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I hope and trust the company would have me back. In terms of my position, the role would have to be right. If it was then of course I'd go back.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In my year the group was quite different, diverse and had different interests. Due to this there weren't many group gatherings but those who had similar interests definitely made the most of their free time.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is ridiculously expensive. I found the cheapest cost of living to be food. If you know your way around London you can find cheap food places. Other than that everything is costly. I'd say live fairly close to work and remember the experience is priceless. Although you might be buying heart attack prices, it is only for a year of your life.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Awful but I suppose it depends what your into. London nightlife overall is amazing, It's just that certain areas aren't. In my opinion, North London being one of the not so good areas.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I can only think of three so I guess not that many. One was a running club, zumba and the other was the charity that the company has (RMHC) - you could volunteer at any of the sites.
