    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Macmillan. Although there were aims and objectives for the duration of it, there was a lot of freedom within this and you could make what you wanted from the internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues. Although I was only a temporary Intern, I felt like they were really interested in my ideas and that they valued my input. They were all friendly, welcoming and more than happy to help- nothing was ever too much for them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my manager. She clearly stated aims and objectives, and if I had any questions (which I did have plenty of!) she was more than happy to help and explain things to me. She was always there to contact for anything no matter how big or small- even just a friendly chat! I felt we created a good bond which enabled me to get the most out of my internship.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I felt I was very busy- there were always lots of little things to be done. At times I did feel a little overwhelmed but my manager was there to help me and I prioritised tasks accordingly. Everything was do-able and I covered a huge variety of tasks. I was pleased to have lots to do- and it was quality tasks, which meant I got a lot more out of it.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given a large responsibility which was great. I was running the social media pages myself including organising the content, and attended meetings, for example with schools, alone. I liked having this responsibilty, and it was still reassuring to know theteam were always there if I did need anything.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that every skill I have acquired from this role will help my career to progress. I have learnt a variety of valuable skills- personal and work related.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This is hard to answer as I was mainly based from home, or travelling. When I was working in the York office, the staff there were very friendly and helpful

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the internship was well organised- from the beginning there was a clear structure with aims and objectives. I feel some tasks could have been indicated to be a priority on beginning the internship, however some of these were new this year so it was a learning curve for everyone.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I received Media training and Social Media training which was valuable to my role with Macmillan. There were helpful files on the system to help complete tasks too.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
