The Role
I really enjoyed my time with Macmillan because i felt as though i was needed and valued within my team. I wasn't just making cups of tea or following someone around. I was trained up fast and then given the responsibilty to go out and produce some worthwhile work.
Like family is too much i think. It was only a 3 month internship. However, as i have stated in my comment above, the team really did make me feel like an equil and as though i could contribute ideas rather than just responding to others.
I had 4 FRM's (managers) and they were all fantastic. I could call them whenever i needed and they were always willing to help. I had one main point of call with whom i had weekly catch-up's. However, we spoke a lot more regularly than that which was great.
There was always something to do. It would be a mistake to think you had a day ahead with not many tasks because something would always come up. This was good as it kept me on my toes and meant that i was never bored or wondering what to do.
I wasn't running the show but i feel as though i was given plenty of responsibilty. At times i was running our social media and i was given total freedom and control over what i posted and when. I was also working on my own a lot of the time which i liked. Working by myself made me feel as though i could do things how i had been told but with my own little additions or adjustments - i suppose i felt in charge of myself and that was really important for me.
The skills i have learned certainly compliment my degree, especially with regards to marketing. i have learned a lot about the social media due to our social media manager (expert) and this type media is undoubtable going to grow and grow in the worl of marketing. However, it is the people skills and confidence and real life experiences that i will value most from this internship - i really feel i have grown as a person.
The Company
I was a mobile worker so the interaction between my team was limited. However, whenever we had a team meeting or i had a one to one with anyone it was always great fun and easy going.
There is plenty of different things available to interns at Macmillan with plenty of opportunities to explore real life business environments and experiences.
A lot of time was invested in me to train me as a confident speaker, writer etc. However, the main thing invested in me was trust. I was given freedom to do things that i wanted to and grow in areas that i beleived to be relevant to my future career.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Working from home
I'm not really sure. I havn't enquired.
The Culture
As i am a mobile worker and not based with any other staff or interns, there was little chance of me having many social interactions with anyone from work. However, whenever a national meeting was held in London, there was always a social afterwards.
Cannot really comment as i have explained above - i didn't have many social opportunities.
I was a mobile worker but the night life in Stoke-on-Trent where i live is fine if you ask me.
Not really for the same reasons as above. If i was Based in London this would have been different however.
