    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a very good placement, with plenty of opportunities arising, so it was never boring and there was always something new to learn. The people that work for ALDI are excellent as well, making it very enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were excellent, everyone was very welcoming and helpful throughout the year. From Store to Head Office, all employees were happy to help.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was great over the year, the company put you with Managers and Area Managers that have great experience with ALDI so that helps a lot. A lot of the learning you will do practically though, so it is done on your own. This works well as I learnt a lot quicker this way.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always something to do, whether it be in Store or at Head Office. This is good though as time goes by very quickly and you learn to manage several tasks at once. I enjoyed having a lot to do because you are never bored and you become a very efficient worker.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I joined the Store at Assistant Manager level from day one. This is tough as Store Assistants know a lot more than you when you start but you learn a lot very quickly. If you are willing to work hard then you will learn a massive amount and will be given the opportunities to progress further. At the end of my time in Store, I was in charge and running the Store when I was in. The project work is very independent as well, I was given a brief, outlining what was wanted and a date to present it, and it was up to me how to complete the project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a massive amount working at ALDI. My store time helped me to develop many skills which will be very useful later in life and the same can be said about Head Office. The work at Head Office will be very helpful for my last year of University as it has given me a great insight into the company and how it operates.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very helpful and got on well.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was given a plan outlining my year and how it would be split up. Sometimes opportunities came up and so I did not stick to the plan, but this was good because it gave me more opportunities to better myself.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time training me. In store trainees are allocated a set amount of hours in which to be trained. This will be used by the Store Manager to show you how to do the jobs in the store and then to practice these tasks on your own. ALDI allowed me to make mistakes, it was expected, but I learnt from these mistakes and grew because of them.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Car

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • ALDI are happy to take on the Industrial Placement students onto the Graduate Scheme where you train to be an Area Manager. If you are good enough and show it on the placement year then you have a massive step up on every other applicant for the role.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone got on really well, including all of the placement students. We were all at Head Office together and so were able to spend a lot of time together which was good.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I lived at home.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the occasional event in which employees of the company spend time outside of work together.
