    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The first day was filled with lots of talks from inspiring women at EY covering a wide spectrum of topics. It was motivating to hear about the importance of DE&I at EY and the impact of the EY Foundation. The presentation skills session from was very useful and I had the chance to implement some of the tips in the case study presentation. I particularly enjoyed the EY Women's Network and the Assurance panel events. I was inspired by the advice about how the Network empowers women to build their careers at EY. From the Assurance panel, it was interesting to hear about how technology is implemented in day to day tasks and the different skills needed to succeed in a career in assurance. The final day was very interactive and included a networking event, talks focussing on financial wellbeing and sustainability, as well as a case study. The Assurance case study brought the whole experience to reality and was an opportunity to work with new people.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The presentation skills session was very useful and I had the chance to implement some of the tips in the case study presentation. I built on my teamwork skills through the case study, as I worked with 4 other people to produce a presentation and the start of an audit. Furthermore, there was lots of opportunity to develop networking skills, with network sessions including other participants of the programme as well as graduates working at EY.

  • I gained invaluable experience and knowledge about assurance services as well as the community and culture at EY. There were many talks about the different areas of EY and how they are connecting to the community and their staff. I learnt a lot about the networks at EY and how they can support staff in the workplace and also how they are fun to be apart of. Additionally, there was plenty of information about progression in the field of Assurance.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I have really enjoyed participating in Discover EY for many reasons. Firstly, the breadth of information that I learnt about Assurance services from the well-designed talks and events. I feel that it has given me a good representation of what working in this field would be like and how I can prepare. Also, the networking opportunities allowed me to connect with students from a variety of backgrounds. There were many breaks scattered throughout the programme which was very important for recharging and stepping away from the screen.
