Overview
The role involves training a sensory panel, making up samples to be analysed, conducting sensory tests, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Once the data is written up many projects will include a debrief session where the data is presented to the development team. Guidance is then given to the development team on how to progress with their project.
Skills
I have improved my communication skills, presentation skills, professionalism, and time-management.
Responsibilities
I was given many responsibilities during my placement. I took on real projects for the business which lead to large business decisions. These include cost saving initiatives, product improvement, benchmarking, lower salt/sugar/fat products. I had to present the findings to the relevant teams in the business. Many of the team was much more senior than myself.
Support & Guidance
My manager was available most of the time to support me with most questions I had. At the beginning of the placement I often booked meetings in with my line manager to discuss my roles and how to tackle them. They always managed my projects well to help me spread out my work load.
Culture
Small office environment, many friendly and approachable people. Very strict health and safety rules. Smart-casual attire.
Your Impressions
I found it very enjoyable and have met lots of great people, however it was stressful at times with high work loads.
