    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role during placement was to support my team members specifically on the Flavours and Seasonings and Home-Baking categories within R&D. My day to day tasks included: artworks approval, Mnotes, PCB’s, NIC’s (these few are data entry), shippers approval, weekly meetings (project/team) and being in contact with suppliers. Other tasks included monthly audits for the ingredients team, working on new packaging formats, producing designs for projects and giving presentations.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed my soft skills including time and personal management, teamwork and communication. As a result of the pandemic my communication skills developed in a variety of ways with an emphasis on virtual. I was able to develop my design skills from my degree by applying them to tangible products and my materials and processing knowledge through the shared knowledge of my team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I did not have any leadership roles (nor did I want one) but I was given responsibility in the form of being in contact with suppliers, assessing samples and trials and completing data tasks correctly.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 4/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given lots of support, I could always ask questions of people (which I did a lot) and was guided sufficiently when I was not confident in what I was doing. I essentially had a work mum on the packaging team who was always ready to help me if I struggled - I couldn't have done it without her!

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There was a relaxed element to the culture with casual Friday's and flexible working hours. I missed a lot of the company culture due to remote working - there was a rota system for being in the office only when it was essential so I didn't get to experience the atmosphere hugely but, when I did it was really positive and friendly!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement, I learned a lot and enjoyed the work/life balance it allowed me. I learned more about what I want to do in the future and myself. There was limited social activities due to the pandemic which I think I would have really enjoyed had they been possible but that couldn't be helped!
