    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I'm a marine and energy reinsurance broker, assisting other brokers in research, presentation creation, and data analysis for other brokers to present to their clients. I've been assisting in research/projects related to the Ukraine conflict and inflation primarily, helping to analyse and create valuable information to inform out clients and reinsurers.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Some more tangible skills I've improved are my excel and powerpoint skills as I need to use both programs daily, and over the course of the 9 week internship I've seen my skills grow significantly. Some intangible skills are team working, critical thinking, and communication, as working on projects with other brokers requires communication and team working and data analysis has improved my critical thinking.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I'd say I was; I've seen some of the work I've been involved in make it to presentation slides which are presented directly to clients, which shows that I've been involved directly in useful and valuable projects.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty. Everyone in my team has been very approachable and helpful whenever I've had questions and concerns. They've been able to explain things in a way I can understand. Furthermore, the intern learning sessions offered by the Early Careers Team have been extremely useful as they cover skills/knowledge that is not only useful for the internship but for our professional careers in general.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I think one of the best parts of the internship has been the culture and atmosphere. Everyone I've met, particularly in my team, have been extremely friendly and welcoming and I've felt as though they've really embraced me as part of the team. I haven't really felt like an intern; I feel as though I'm part of the team.

  • I think it has been an amazing opportunity and I've loved every minute. From a professional viewpoint, the skills and knowledge I've gained have been invaluable and will certainly help me in my career moving forward. From a social viewpoint, I've made some great friends and connections in my time at Aon which I'm sad to leave as the internship comes to a close.
