    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assisting with team projects alongside also having assigned personal tasks to complete. These include taking minutes and updating files and documents, alongside getting involved in peer work projects. We also received training, so the role also provided a chance for learning about reinsurance and developing knowledge of the industry. Furthermore there was also the opportunity to sit in on meetings to learn from peers and join client meetings to gain experience in external conversations too.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed a much broader knowledge of reinsurance and much better understanding of the concepts within reinsurance, I have been able to apply this knowledge when completing assigned tasks, alongside this developing excel skills by learning how to use different shortcuts. Also, advancing presentational skills on powerpoint and when formatting. The role has helped me to evolve my personal skills when presenting work and generally with time management and working in a team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, generally got a fair bit of responsibility. This came in different forms, being provided the opportunity to get involved in projects that the team were working on at the time which were important, which came with the responsibility of meeting deadlines. Also, having assigned projects to manage and work on, all whilst being supported from various members of the team so it was a great mix of having responsibility with a lot of people to support with tasks.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Received a lot of support, from various members of the team from all different ages. Which was great to have a large network to ask for support when needed. Alongside this the team carved out time for training during the internship which provided a lot of guidance and learning opportunities' and the chance to ask questions. Also, during the internship there was a large cohort of interns which can be an extra form of support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture feels very inclusive, our summer projects highlighted the emphasis the company puts on inclusivity. There is lots of different initiatives within the firm that promote diversity and there is a lot of charity work, through different forms of fundraising and also donations. I am not aware of company wide events however, it is a large firm and obviously I have only been there for a short period of time over the summer so this may be a thing.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my time on the internship. Every day was different, from the tasks that I was set to complete to the meetings attended, the summer has flown by really quickly. The scheme is well set up, with such a large cohort of interns, they run events to meet interns within your office and in others whilst also getting the opportunity to be involved in one team over the internship so you can get a real feel for the work you are doing and whether you will enjoy it.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Aon
  • Make sure to prepare for interviews and research about the company. When we joined we had two days worth of induction, so if you know very little about the industry do not be put off from applying as you learn a lot within the induction days. From experience the London office was a great place to be based as there is a lot of other interns in London and it is important to develop your network from the start of the internship.
