    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was within the actuarial and analytics team within the actuarial consulting (general insurance) stream of Aon's business. My role involved meeting with clients and working with senior members of the team to provide services including pricing, loss forecasting, reserving and other actuarial analyses. On a daily basis this can include sending emails, having calls with members of the team and clients and working in excel to complete the necessary analysis. Any questions I had could be brought to fellow members of my project team

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, i have significantly developed my skills in excel and word by completing analysis and report writing. I have also improved my communication skills by having meetings with senior members of the team to talk through projects and by meeting clients to discuss our work and any questions they may have. I have also developed my knowledge of the insurance industry in London and internationally and gained skills in working in and understanding the corporate environment

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I have worked on a vast number of projects throughout my internship. Within these projects I had a variety of different responsibilities. These included meeting with clients to discuss projects, working on real actuarial analyses and report making and discussing these with senior members of the team. I was also trusted with confidential client information and was allowed to use this to carry out the necessary analysis. I was also given the opportunity to use the companies own software to carry out some analysis.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a significant amount of support and guidance from my team during my internship. I was always welcome to call or message other members of the team to seek guidance or ask any questions I may have surrounding my project work or just general questions about the internship. I always felt supported, which was helped by the weekly meetings with my line manager and chats with my buddy (who was a recent graduate within the team).

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere were always positive. Everyone I met within the office seemed friendly and positive about the work they were doing. There was also a very inclusive and accepting culture, which was supported by the BRG groups within Aon that are designed to improve awareness and acceptance of different minority groups including LGBTQ, under represented ethnicities and mental health awareness. These values were also present within my own team which further highlighted the positive company culture
