Overview
I was placed within the International Terrorism broking team. My tasks vary day to day due to the different accounts that get sent to the team. My tasks include assisting the team with updating market spreadsheets, creating quote sheets, conducting research into risks and assisting with sending emails to the market.
Skills
I have greatly developed my communication skills through interacting with other brokers and underwriters in the market and also through getting to know the team. My teamwork skills have also developed through working closely with different team members and working together to meet deadlines. I have also improved my excel skills and my insurance knowledge throughout the internship.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given some responsibility. I was given responsibility of an account where I had to email different markets seeking their approval for terms. Additionally I was given a variety of projects to complete such as creating a market spreadsheet and completing quote sheets.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance throughout my internship from multiple people. The early careers team at Aon were very helpful for support and guidance at the start of the internship and helped with any questions and worries I had in the first few weeks of the internship. Additionally my line manager and director of the team were both very supportive and gave me great guidance throughout the internship.
Culture
In general the atmosphere and culture was inclusive, but I feel that with other teams some change still needs to happen to make the company culture even more inclusive. Despite this, Aon as a company is driving for wider inclusivity within the Insurance industry and within the workplace.
Your Impressions
I found the first few weeks of the internship challenge as I had no previous experience of a corporate working environment and the insurance industry as a whole. However once I settled in I loved my internship as I got on really well with the team and found the work and tasks I was completing very interesting and exciting.
Yes
Research into the different streams that Aon offers as there is a lot of variety with roles. The whole recruitment process was positive as I completed the online application, completed a recorded video interview and then went straight to a face to face interview.
