Overview
Conducting stock condition surveys including Decent Homes and HSSRS. Also, undertaking measured surveys and structural engineering surveys/works. As an undergraduate at MDA you have a proper job role and contribute hugely to the team. You will be on site most days with some days in the office. This is great for developing your knowledge and skills.
Skills
Yes, I learnt more here in my first 3 months than my whole 2 years at university. I have learnt skills and knowledge which I will take forward throughout my career as a building surveyor.
Responsibilities
Yes, the level of independence and responsibility you have allows you to develop your knowledge and skills massively to best prepare you for a graduate job and your final year at university. I was lucky enough to be involved in helping to project manage, which was an invaluable experience. It gave me an insight into what goes on in the setting up/ reporting stages of a project.
Support & Guidance
The management team are always there to help you if you ever feel outside your comfort zone or need any help or guidance. You also receive training throughout the year to develop your skillset.
Culture
Everyone at MDA is so friendly and welcoming, it makes your first week a lot less daunting and you feel part of the team straight away.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would recommend it to anyone. You get to work on such a variety of projects which I loved.
Yes
If you want a hands-on placement where you are not just shredding paper and making teas then this is the perfect place. The team are all really warm and friendly and make you feel part of the team. Apply as early as possible to get your placement secured so you don't have to stress throughout your second year.
