    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role within the company is to work within and support the maintenance engineering team based in Bedford. Day-to-day operations included a variety of things, shadowing engineers, assisting with track patrols, remapping and creating patrol diagrams, project managing improvement projects etc..

  • I was provided opportunities to project manage projects with full involvement and autonomy. Help was also provided if and when I required it. In charge of producing benefits cases for innovative projects.

  • Great support and guidance. Everyone was very busy but always made time to assist me with any help or queries I had. The training was comprehensive and made me feel safe on the railway.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Great atmosphere, everyone was very welcoming and experienced. Worked within a variety of different teams and felt included in all of them. Productive and inclusive culture with an atmosphere that produces a great work ethic.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement greatly despite Covid reducing the ability to partake in group and general activities. Still able to attend a wide variety of practical experiences despite this and really enjoyed these. I got a lot out of it and feel prepared for the workplace.

  • Be open to learning and be honest when you need help. They dont expect you to be able to do everything and as long as you give everything a go and really involve yourself everyone is more than happy to help you get the most out of placement.
