Register Your Interest: Commercial & Procurement Year in Industry

Our 12-month Commercial and Procurement placement allows you to explore how we deliver economic, efficient, and effective commercial solutions to Britain’s railways. You’ll work on important projects, learning about the end-to-end procurement process whilst playing an active role.

If delivering economic and effective solutions matters to you.

You matter to us.

Real responsibility matters.

What you’ll be doing:

The contracts and procurement functions are responsible for sourcing and buying all goods, works, and services for Network Rail.

You’ll work in different commercial and procurement teams, with the opportunity to work on important projects, playing an active role throughout each stage. Depending on the stage of the procurement process, you could be drafting governance documents or awarding contracts to suppliers, agreeing and evaluating contracts against tender specifications, or negotiation with suppliers on pricing, contract and payment considerations.

You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the supply base in a particular area, through market research and engagement, to make informed strategic recommendations.

Who you are matters:

You’ll need to be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.

We’re looking for a team player with commercial focus and the ability to liaise with stakeholders of all levels. You should have great communication skills, with the ability to build out your negotiation skills. Experience of using Oracle and Bravo would also be useful.

What you’ll get out of it:

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues and receive coaching from senior staff.

We invest in our placement students because we believe they hold the potential to become the future of our business. Over the 12-months, you’ll get a rounded experience of what it takes to work in Procurement at Network Rail. Impress us, and we’ll consider you for next year’s graduate scheme.

We matter to millions. You could too.
