Overview
My role is to review the Business & Travel Accounts portfolios across Europe, this is a key portfolio for Credit however we see inconsistencies in processes and policies which we would like to align. We are also looking to identify key development opportunities for each market and have a clear understanding on the debt. To achieve this goals I have daily meetings with all BTA Teams, research and many brainstorming sessions to come up with the best opportunities. Also, there are many interactions with other departments to make changes happen through communication and work.
Skills
Yes, throughout this ten weeks I have developed many skills. By working inside a variety of teams I have developed my communication skills and I am more efficent and straight forward when delivering a message or taking it. I have also developed my analysis and research skills as a big part of my project is to research and spot inconsistencies across all European markets. Also, time management is another skill I have really developed as I have been always managing time to deliver the best output possible in time There are other skills I have developed across this internship such as: Critical thinking, collaboration, ability to multi-task or listening skills
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given responsibility as in charge of the project. The project is very important as it looks at spotting and solving many problems which at the moment affect one of the main products of American Express. I was responsible for the whole development and implementation of the project and I also had the chance of taken important decisions and presenting my findings and recommendations to senior leaders. Overall, I believe I had lost of responsibility and I learned many things from the experience.
Support & Guidance
Even though I was working on a project by myself, I received lots of support from my hiring leaders. They supported me through the whole internships scheduling weekly meetings to get some feedback on my weekly progress and help me expand my network. Also, all of the other teams and departments helped me with one to one sessions on the product and their role. This was of great help to develop my knowledge and understanding on my role.
Culture
The company culture was amazing, I felt integrated and welcomed since day one. The best thing about American Express is the diversity and the amount of people with different background and cultures. Everyone actually cares about you and your role and I came across many colleagues which helped me throughout this ten weeks. Also, I had the chance of taking part in a volunteer and working alongside people with different backgrounds and ways of thinking which opened my mind.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it and I would definitely go back for the graduate scheme. I have learn a huge amount in such a short space of time and I think is due to the people and culture inside Amex. I really enjoyed it GCC as I really liked my project and the goal I was working towards. Also, people inside BTA and in GCC were very welcoming and specially my leaders (Matthew and Lakh) made the overall all experience very good and productive.
Yes
Firstly, I would advice them to be themselves in the interviews and conduct a research on Amex and their job description. When preparing for day one, you have to be ready and be attentive at everything going on as their is lots of information and things going on. I'll recommend from day one to reach out to people and get to know your colleague first. Expanding your network and getting to know other departments is very important for yourself and for your project.
