    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Required to attend meetings both with my team and across my department as a whole. Some are regular review meetings/updates whilst others are project based. The campus team organises engaging sessions for the interns to help us connect or broaden our understanding of the company. Every day is interactive and engaging, but with enough time to work on my project or reach out to other interns/departments to network.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a phenomenal amount in only a month or two here at Amex. Whilst there is a lot to understand very quickly, the environment and people are super supportive and will help you with anything you need or don't understand. The new skills I've learnt are mostly analysis based and also around understanding the internal business operations of a company and how to drive change.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I think you can have as little or as much responsibility as you ask for, it really depends how much you want to get out of the internship. Everyone is expected to contribute to the team, and any request to take further responsibility or leading without direction is encouraged, but i think you need to drive yourself if you want to get the most out of it and push yourself.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A really supportive environment whilst still letting you learn for yourself. You are given a buddy who is on the grad scheme who you have weekly catch ups with, also your manager as well as hiring leader who are both there to support you on your journey. I feel comfortable to talk to any of these people, or my team or colleagues about questions I may have, advice or further support I might need.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is extremely friendly and willing you give you their time to understand what they do in the business, or help you with any queries you have. I was surprised by but really like how directors and executives colleagues are so willing to make time in their day to talk and get to know you, either through 1-1s, roundtable sessions or presentations.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my internship so far. I have learnt an unbelievable amount about my department and the company, as well as corporate life and the workplace. I have been able to connect with the other interns (despite the internship being virtual) and feel supported and welcomed throughout my journey.
