    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Day to day tasks can include being on site carrying out stock condition or validation surveys or working with power tools carrying out structural investigations. Some days are spent in the office catching up on paperwork.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have really developed my CAD skills, my skills on software such as excel and I have gained so much knowledge from the structural investigations about the construction of buildings. I have also developed my knowledge on a range of subjects thanks to the wide array of CPD events MDA offer.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support, I was mainly working on my own across the country but the project managers were always available on the other end of the phone if needed. If there was something I was not comfortable doing on my own MDA would make sure I was accompanied by a colleague until I felt confident to carry out the job.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge during my placement year which will benefit me a lot going into my final year at Uni and the start of my career. I have been trusted to work on my own on surveying projects and worked across the country for numerous clients. However, working up and down the country does have drawbacks such as long working hours and being away from home.
