    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work as a test engineer and resource planner at the DTO site for Cummins. I am involved with PEMS testing which is a combination of on road real time data collection using specialized equipment and software based analysis of the data. I also handle work requests for the department and plan them into schedule for weekly and monthly operations.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills as well as learned a lot during my time here. I have learned about diesel engines, emission regulations, PEMS testing, Data Analysis. I have also understood the dynamics of working in a large organization and developed skills such as communication, team work, resource management and planning.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, with time the responsibility on me increased. I was analyzing data for certifications and preparing reports presented to the certifying agencies. I was also responsible for helping with the planning and allocation of resources for daily operations on site.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received constant support from senior management as well as fellow colleagues. The management provided full support during the pandemic and tried their best to give the best possible learning experience despite the situation. The colleagues were also very helpful and never refused from helping out.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere is very healthy. There is always a collective goal in mind and everyone is willing to help each other. I find most operations to be team based which is healthy for growth and learning.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The situation was different due to the global pandemic, however despite that I worked on site throughout the year and learned a lot. Overall it was a good experience and I enjoyed working as part of a global company.
