    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a placement student in the quality department, my main responsibility is to ensure the integration of all projects and quality specific processes. This opportunity has provided me with a lot of experience in many fields. From communicating to stakeholders, keeping the database and notes up-to-date, data generation and reporting, understanding cycle time measures, I have been involved in ensuring improvement on a daily basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes. I have been able to improve on all my soft and technical skills. At the same time, I have also picked up on many new skills such as learning how to use Minitab software, understanding 6 Sigma processes, use of Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams on a daily basis. Cummins has provided us with Cummins Learning Centre (CLC) and Perciepo, 2 platforms that have many learning courses, videos, boot camps, and training courses.

  • I was given the right amount of responsibility during my placement. They also used to push me positively to more opportunities to take the reigns and improve.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance during my period. They got in contact with me before my placement to ensure I was doing fine (Since that was the time the pandemic had just begun), they ensured I had received all my material set-up i.e laptop and monitor on time so I could start work headstrong. I have meetings in place with my line manager every week where we also discuss personal development.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement quite a bit. There were many times, I would be interested to work overtime because the work was very meaningful. I had many chances to improve on myself, volunteer for causes and make lot of connections.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
  • Keep your headstrong and go for the interview. Do some research at least about the company and be honest. There are many learning opportunities at Cummins, make sure to go ahead and utilize them. Do not wait for others to approach you.
