    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed it, campus team made us feel really welcome. Got to work on project that had real impact. This was a virtual internship but I still felt really connected to the company and colleagues. We got a lot of overviews of the company from other departments and business leaders so really good at helping to give an idea of how a global company works. I got a lot of help and support in my development as well.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The campus team was really helpful in trying to make the internship work for us despite it being virtual and put on lots of events. My talent leader in my department was really helpful and supportive. She was really good at supporting me through any problems I had. My leader gave me an interesting problem to work on and was there to help through it. Sometimes leader aren't always there to provide support but that is the nature of work in a busy company during a global crisis.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt like I had a good level of support, I was given an interesting project that I could work on independently, he was also there to provide support if needed. I felt like I was pushed to do things outside my comfort zone allowing me to develop. He was not always there at my disposal but I think there is an expectation that you have to get on with your work. I felt the project I had allowed me to do that

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start I didn't have as much to do and had to really get up to speed with the company and the department I'm in. End of week 2 I was give my big project and once I had that I had a lot to focus on. By essence, it's difficult fitting into a big company after a couple of weeks but I felt as much as I could've been given I was. We also had lots of speaker sessions and events.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It was emphasized to me at the start that my project was important to the team and my expectations were set for me early on. I slightly wished I started it earlier because the other projects I was given I didn't enjoy that much but they were useful starting. My main project was a good solo one that allowed me to really focus my attention and create something meaningful even in a short span of time.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt really valuable data analysis, presentation, networking, data presentation and so many more skills. I study economics at uni so definitely skills I can bring back. I feel I really had a chance to learn business skill - my degree being very academically focus I don't often get that chance. These are things that I can put on my CV and develop in my future career for sure. I also learnt about the business and different roles.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We weren't in the office because we were virtual. The worst thing about the virtual workplace is that it was more difficult to get to know people over voice calls. However, everyone was incredibly friendly and helped up feel included in the company. Some days I had no meeting and spent all day on my project which could feel isolating but the vast majority of days I had a meeting to help me feel connected.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The campus team made a lot of effort to deliver the best internship they could virtually which I was incredibly grateful for. They maybe even had too many events! There was definitely a lot of time and energy put into providing as good an experience as possible. At the start of my internship when I was getting up to speed I sometimes felt less understanding about what I was supposed to do but by week 3 I was sure about what I had to do and achieve.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They put a lot of effort into development chats and skill learning with me. I had weekly 1-on-1s with a graduate mentor and with my internship organizer which were both very helpful;. I had a chance to chat to a VP in the company as well as others from my team and department which helped me learn a lot about the company. I learnt lots of new skills through my project and through different events which has definitely helped my career confidence.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • From the internship you can be offered a place on the grad scheme in the department you were in. It's not mentioned that much about how they assess whether they'd give you a place on the grad scheme through the internship. In some ways that is nice because it's not too much of an overhanging focus throughout the internship. Even then I feel I learnt a lot on the internship which I could bring over to other jobs if need be.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Because it was virtual we didn't get to know each as well but we still held events and meet up to get to know each other.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • This was a virtual internship so not applicable as I lived at home.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Same as above

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Obviously this was limited because we were virtual but there were some things to get involved if you wanted. I was pretty busy most of the time and only there for 6 weeks so I never had the chance.
