The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at MDA, it is a very welcoming coming with a friendly working environment. My placement was very interesting and educational as I was considered a fully team member.
During my placement, I undertook plenty of jobs both individually and with my colleagues. I always felt valued within my department while on placement, which allowed me to express myself more as confidence was gained.
Throughout my placement, I was in frequent contact with my supervisors, with them always being available should I have a query on anything. I had a review meeting every 3 months to analysis my progress, and discuss what else I wanted from my placement.
At Michael Dysons, you are appreciated at a full team member, therefore, I was busy throughout my placement whether that be from site visits, report writing or meetings.
Once I had gained the trust of my colleagues and shown I was responsible, I was given a considerable amount of responsibility. I represented the company at monthly meetings, undertake site valuations/reports and complete other reports/cost plans alone. I was also given the responsibility to manage a number of smaller jobs during my placement.
I developed an endless amount of skills at Michael Dysons. Timekeeping/planning, communication and professionalism are the more generic skills that I developed on placement that will help me in my degree studies and later life. The more industry based skills I developed that will help my in my career after graduation were quantification and costing, health and safety, contract administration and client care.
The Company
The office was a very welcoming and friendly place to be. The working environment within my team was good, with the team often organising social events after work.
My placement year was well set out, I had regular review meetings with my supervisor.
While on placement, I received multiple training days from specific JCT contracts training to First Aid training.

Company Parties/Events
The organisation is a very appealing place to work once graduated as they always look to promote from within. Also, they provide significant aid with gaining the RICS chartership and invest largely in training programmes.
The Culture
The living costs were reasonable for where I was living. Socialising costs were cheaper than city prices. My wage covered the my rent and social events comfortably, with myself still able to put away a decent amount of money each month.
Standard, pubs were good, but small selection of clubs let the area down.
Plenty, I joined a local football team with one of my colleagues.
