The Role
I enjoyed my placement more than i thought i would. Throughout my placement I got to work on a variety of products / brands, work with many departments / people from across the business. Further to this anything i wanted to learn more about they gave you opportunity to do, even if it was outside of you job role.
Throughout placement i felt valued by my colleagues, i was not a student they treated you like a technologist. Any ideas or suggestions you had towards something were valued and taken forward when applicable.
Throughout placement i was given consistent support by my mangers. In particular at the start of placement when i was learning how to use the different software. Throughout placement any opportunities i wanted to shadow projects or departments my mangers were very supportive of this. Also my mangers were supportive when i wanted to take on a project that was not usually part of my day to day work.
Since the beginning of placement to end i was constantly busy, if i had a day which was not busy it was out of the normal. This placement keeps you busy on a day to day and it is good as you are not clock watching.
From the beginning of placement i was given a lot of responsibility, I was in charge of running the Sensory Trained Panel on a day to day basis, this involved leading the panel which had 12 people. Also I was given my own projects from the start which were my responsibility from start to finish.
The skills i have developed during placement will be great for future employment. As the skills and training i have received will assist me in my final year studies as i will have modules which are based around what i learnt on placement and the skills i developed.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was positive. People were approachable across all teams towards any students.
The placement was well organised throughout the year. The company is use to having placement students so they have opportunities throughout the year for you to understand / visit other sites in the business.
Throughout the placement they wanted you to develop; your job role understand others jobs, to understand what they do and how that fits in with your role and the wider business. Also while i was there gave the funding / resources to do IGD qualification to help our development.

The company offers a graduate scheme at their head office in St Albans. Further to this a number of current employees are ex-placement students, so when jobs are available it is open for old placement students to apply.
The Culture
The students run the social team, so we contribute to the social scene within the office. However there is a good social scene with Christmas party, bake sales, quizzes and leaving do's.
I lived in Sheffield which was a 30 minute drive from work. With what you earn each month from placement i had spare money after living costs to use it for socialising.
Where i lived while doing placement in Sheffield, has a good nightlife. Sheffield has a whole street of pubs / bars / clubs called west street. However where the office is based in Worksop there is not much nightlife.
When people left the company then that's when the opportunities happened.
