    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The Customer Service and Business Strategy Summer Internship of American Express was an excellent programme. I have highly enjoyed the last 10 weeks. American Express gives you a lot of opportunities to network, get knowledge about the business and also organizes a lot of social events during the summer in Brighton and London.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The culture at American Express is very welcoming and diverse. All colleagues have been amazing support during the time of the Internship. You will have the chance to network with colleagues of different levels and there are many networks that you can join. You don't just feel like an Intern.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the Customer Service and Business Strategy Summer Internship, I think you get a good balance between support and guidance form your manager and also the opportunity to take your own initiative and drive your project in the way you would like it to go. I really enjoyed this autonomy.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This really depends on the project and also on your own initiatives. Sometimes I felt like it would have been nice to get some more goals in the project as this would have made the time a bit busier. So there are definitely some opportunities for some projects to be a bit more extensive in the future.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The Customer Service and business Strategy Summer Internship gives you a great opportunity to show your skills. For my project, I was the only one working on it, meaning I have owned my project. This has been a great opportunity to show my skills and take my own initiative.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I gained during the Customer Service and Business Strategy Summer Internship are very valuable for the future. Mainly knowing how a company operates internally and how to communicate and problem solve. Additionally I gained more presentation skills and communication skills during the last 10 weeks of the summer.
