The Role
The internship was a great experience and definitely beat all my expectations. American Express has a great culture of helping everyone including interns and gave me a platform to learn a lot of transferable skills; coding (SAS/SQL), presentation and contacting colleagues across the world. I would highly recommend people to apply.
Definitely. I felt like my project had a huge impact on the wider team and they has a genuine interest in what I was doing. As a result, people respected my opinion and took extra time to help out. American Express is also unique that it's part of the culture to have 1-2-1 meetings with vice presidents and directors which is awesome for your development.
There was a lot of guidance from the wider team and my manager scheduled in any time to meet me if I was struggling.
I was definitely as busy as I wanted to be. There is always more work if you want some. At the start, there isn't much work as you are settling in and that perhaps felt boring.
There was a responsibility and expectation to produce some insightful work from your project.
There was so many skills I learnt which is definitely transferable in the future such as coding to manipulate big data. This is definitely the internship to develop skills.
The Company
Relaxing. Not too intense or fast paced. A lot of time for quick chats about the weekend and etc.
Very well organised. The social events and the projects were very good and thought out. Credit to the HR team.
They invested a lot of time to teach you the skills useful for your personal development.

Very appealing. The company is very big so there are a lot of different things to do within and a clear path to work your way up to vice president level.
The Culture
Amazing. There's a boat party and lots of dinners organised by the company. Highlight was the boat party and crazy golf.
Very expensive but that is London.
Lots of options! It is London!
Yes! I got involved in football with the company after work. A great chance to meet different people and let a bit of steam off.
