The Role
The colleagues are really nice and try to help wherever they can. You can talk to anyone in different teams and learn about what they do.
There are weekly and biweekly catch-ups where you can talk about your own project or how you fell in general about the work. Everyone is happy to help and give advise on difficult tasks. I felt like I could ask any question. Moreover, there were a lot of regular or special non-work related events where you can get to know your team and other colleagues better.
In our weekly catch-ups and in between I could update my manager on my progress and work out the next steps together. After important meetings we would always reconcile to figure out the next steps. Therefore, I could work as independent as I wanted to but always had my manager to help by my side.
There were periods that where quite busy and such where there was less to do. As I was mainly in charge of my own project I could plan my tasks and steps mainly on my own and would know in advance when it would get busier and plan accordingly.
At the beginning of the internship I received my own project that I worked on during the whole internship. While I could mainly decide how to proceed along the project my manager was the project manager and make the final calls. Therefore, I received a reasonable amount of responsibility for an intern.
During the internship I learned a lot about how organization work and how they are structures. Working together with the middle management I experienced different leadership styles and got to know different types of coworkers. As a business student this is really valuable to understand real life examples of the theories in these areas. Moreover, this internship is particularly helpful to add practical experience to the theoretical stuff tougt at uni.
The Company
The atmosphere was professional but not formal or uptight. It was easy to get to know the colleagues better and to talk to them about different (non-work related) topics. I never felt like the atmosphere would be tense. Many people greet each other and inter-team collaboration is fostered a lot.
There were 2-3 HR contacts that took car of the programme. Therefore, everything was well organized. There were about 5 intern events like a boat party that were organized by HR. Moreover, there were catch-ups to make sure we were good with the our colleagues and the internship in general.
In first week there were many trainings that were skill-based but also aiming to give everyone a better understanding of the company and the respective business unit. Moreover, there were regular online trainings and training days for all colleagues that you could participate in.
