The Role
The company has a really nice culture where everyone is friendly and willing to help colleagues of all levels. The experience helped me to develop my skills and I had the opportunity to guide my own work whilst still having a supportive team behind me. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole internship.
Both the interns and the wider team were very friendly and welcoming, there were events organized by the campus team which allowed us to bond with the other interns and support each other. The project added actual value to the team and as a result this made me feel I was playing an important part.
My manager was really helpful, she organised weekly catchups to discuss my progress on my projects and my general feelings about how the internship and my work was progressing. She was very willing to offer feedback when I asked for it. My director also organized catchups and it was nice to gain his perspective.
I was very busy for much of the internship as I had several fairly large projects to complete, however towards the end of the internship as I finished my project I was considerably less busy, this however gave me time to focus on building relationships and understanding the business units.
I had complete responsibility for completing the analysis required for my project but I wasn't required to be the sole responsible party for any of the projects which had company wide impact, this helped me to feel more comfortable and like I could easily ask for help when I needed to.
I developed skills in excel and data analysis which although it will not be useful in my degree as we use different software will help me in my career. I developed presentation skills which was something I stated at the start of my internship as one of my key goals.
The Company
The culture is really nice with a very diverse employee dynamic with a wide range of people in the office.
Our projects were clearly communicated to us at the start and there was a clear feedback process in place to help us to develop both personally and professionally.
There was training on Excel and presentation skills and my team were also keen to give me other development opportunities more specific to the team and the work I was doing.

I was very keen after the internship to return to American Express, moreso than I had been prior to the start of the internship.
The Culture
There were social events both formal and informal during the programme, with the other interns and with the team. We bonded really well as a group and I didn't feel that there was any competitive or unpleasant atmosphere.
I worked in London so the cost of living and socializing is obviously extremely high especially for those students like me from outside of the area.
Again, in London the nightlife is very good, with options to suit all different types of people.
I was involved in both activities within work time such as a public speaking group and volunteering as well as organized social activities as part of the programme such as crazy golf
