    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was overall very , the project I got struck a good balance between being challenging and being achievable. I had great support throughout which really helped. Occasionally, the work good be somewhat mundane, but this was rare and I think expected. Learning new coding languages and implementing them in real applicable situations was fantastic.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Overall I did feel valued. I got regular feedback explaining how my work was helping the company which great. Occasionally, I wish people would have understood the amount of work that was required to carry out what they were asking however. That being said, I did regularly get thanked for the work I did, which was appreciated.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a perfect amount of support. My manager and buddy delegated work between themselves and supported me in different areas. I would regularly have a query and they would happily help me, and I never felt like I was wasting their time. This was one of the best things about the internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally, the level of business would fluctuate quite a bit daily, however it was normally a good level. There would be days where I did feel overworked, however these would be quite rare and there would normally be a day where I did not have as much on to allow me to recuperate.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think I was given a perfect amount of responsibility. Too much responsibility can be very daunting to an intern, but likewise you want to be given a good level of autonomy, and I feel like the internship hit a nice balance between these two. Communicating with teams in different regions was a highlight.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learning SQL was a very useful skill, and something that I likely imagine I will be utilizing for a very long time. In addition, my general critical thinking skills improved, and I now have an added set of skills for approaching problems, that I will definitely be utilizing for years.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in office was good, I wouldn't say it was the most exciting place in the world, but to be honest I imagine it would adversely impact productivity if it was the case. I did regularly have nice conversations with colleagues, but I was always conscious of the fact that I was in a place of work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would consider the work placement to be very well organised, I regularly felt like I had been given a goal to carry out, and there were very few times that I felt like nothing had been planned for me to do. This really helped e settle into the job and feel valued.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and resources into training me I feel, especially when it came to the support I received. I would have regular catch ups with managers where I would be given feedback and new goals and this really helped me develop my work skills to match whatwas required of me.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I would love to be able to work there full time. The company has done a great job of training me and making me feel like a valued member of the team, which is one of the things that will make me definitely want to come back one day.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very much so, we were a close group of interns for sure, and we regularly would go out on social occasions together. This really helped me settle into work, and allowed me to further enjoy the work I did as I knew I would be working with people I liked very much.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I personally lived with my parents, so i did not feel much of the cost of living aspect. That being said, London is a very expensive city, but people are aware of this by now. You can be savvy and go to areas that pertain more for students to ensure you don't have to end up spending a ridiculous amount.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was great, London really is a social hub for all types of activities. The interns and I would regularly go on nights out, and this really helped me in generally just enjoying my internship ore so. Overall, this was one of the best perks of the job for sure.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were many opportunities here we could carry out activities such as volunteering. My personal highlight was volunteering in Holland Park, and various things like this helped breath fresh air into the internship when it may occasionally have gotten dull. There were many more opportunities I could have taken part in too that I did not get around to.
