The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Focusrite. It gave me insight into the entire industry and how products were put together from start to finish. I was trusted to carry out responsibilities largely unsupervised and really felt like I made a contribution to the company. It was so good I came back to work full-time after graduating.
One of the great things about Focusrite is that it does feel like family. I made some improvements to the ways Focusrite did things while on placement and was thanked for my efforts.
I was highly supported by my manager / supervisor while on placement. I was always given help where I needed it and if I didn't understand technical issues they would always be explained to me.
It is alwasy busy at Focusrite. The company was growing while I was on placement and still is now. It means there's plenty of opportunities on placement to get involved.
I had lots of responsibilities while on placement - everything from repairing customer's units to building prototypes for new R&D products.
So much of what I learned on placement still benefits me now. The degree studies gave me a good background knowledge but placement is where I learnt to apply that knowledge in a useful way.
The Company
There's a great atmosphere in the office. You can often hear music being played, people using our products and everyone is very friendly.
My placement was a new one that year so there was an element of defining what the role did as the year went by.
Most of the training was done informally by other colleagues throughout the year.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I'm working there now. There's ex placement students at most levels in the company from Director down to Junior Engineers.
The Culture
It was really good fun!
It wasn't too bad but that was a while ago.
There's plenty to do around High Wycombe and the surrounding area.
There's a few social groups organised from within work and there's plenty of local clubs and groups in the surrounding area.
