    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a really great opportunity to learn about a range of different aspects of the industry. Everyone was very kind and willing to help. Although there were moments that I felt I was not necessarily getting everything out of the internship that I could have been, it was overall a really great experience that I would absolutely recommend.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think it's luck of the draw sometimes who you end up with as teammates, but I ended up working with very polite and helpful people. I also had the opportunity to meet with people working in other divisions, all of whom were equally as willing to offer their time and share their experiences.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I unfortunately wasn't able to have much contact with my manager which meant that I initially didn't get as much support as some of the other interns. However, this improved as the itnernship went on and even when my manager was unable to offer help there were always other colleagues who would support in any way they could.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the first few weeks I found that I had very little to do and was constantly pestering coworkers for more work. After the first month I started getting more work and found that I was much busier, however this did mean that I spent half of my internship feeling like I wasn't being challenged enough.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once again, inititally I did not have any responsibilities and had very little impact on the work being done. However, as a few weeks passed I was given slightly more responsibility and was able to feel like I was helping the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Through this internship I have learned a lot more about what interests me and what doesn't. Furthermore, it has taught me so much about what it is like to work in the insurance and reinsurance industry as well as how to professionally conduct myself in an office environment. I believe that the skills I have learned on this internship have been incredibly useful and are one of the biggest reasons that this internship was so worthwhile.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the Aon office is absolutely great. Everyone is very hard working but there are also many opportunities to really have fun. The company culture is really welcoming and friendly and is definitely one of my favourite parts of this internship.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was set up relatively well overall, however there were definitely some things that could have been improved. I had struggles with multiple things, such as not recieving a majority of the welcome and information emails until long after they were sent to the other interns. Additionally, my manager was off sick so I spent 5/9 weeks without a manager in the office, which made it extrememly difficult for me to know where exactly to turn when I needed the information that I hadn't been given. Despite these issues, I think very few other interns had any problems and all events, training, presentation days, etc. ran competely smoothly and were all very enjoyable.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had three days of training to begin the internship which were very helpful. Aditionally, during the internship there were many opportunities to grow and develop, e.g. attending client meetings, shadowing experienced professionals, etc. I definitely feel like Aon was very willing to invest in the development of all the interns.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think that Aon has a really great company culture and treats it's employees incredibly well. I think future employment at Aon would be great, but it is hard to know for sure if you will end up working in the specific division that you want within the broader internship.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • While there was much less of a social scene with my fellow colleagues, all the interns were incredibly friendly and there were almost always things happening on the weekends and after work. There were also events like welcome drinks, a celebration after our final presentations, etc. which were a great way to get to know other interns.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is quite expensive in some places. Accomodation (especially over summer) is incredibly expensive and travel costs can add up too. There are some bars, restaurants, etc. that are also expensive, but there are also plenty of reasonably prices places as long as you know where to look. Without the costs of accomodation included it is not too difficult to live on a budget.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As mentioned previously, compared to other places London can be very expensive so it can be hard to find places that are good value for money. However, there are plenty of student nights that are afordable and there is always something going on around the city to keep you entertained.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't get involved in any activities outside of work, nor was I made aware of any. I think some interns spend time eith their teammates outside of work such as going for drinks, but I didn't. There are multiple business resource groups and sports teams which may offer opportunities to do activities outside work.
