The Role
The placement was extremely enjoyable, and I was made to feel very welcome from the start. Everyone at the firm came across as friendly and outgoing, which really helped to make me feel comfortable and relaxed.
I was made to feel very valued by my colleagues. Even the partners of the firm were, on the role, very encouraging; they seemed to really value my involvement in the work they were doing.
Both my supervisors were very supportive. I turned to them when I had queries regarding the work I had been given, and they invariably helped me to solve the issue.
This varied from day to day, but on the whole I was relatively busy.
I was give interesting and relevant work to do; whether or not this work carried a particularly high level of responsibility, I cannot say -- the main thing is that I felt valued and needed whilst carrying it out.
The skills of analysis and legal research which I began to develop are proving very useful as I study the GDL.
The Company
It was friendly and relaxed -- people seemed to really get on well with one another.
It was well set up, though it was very much your own responsibility to ask around for pieces of work. Less confident people may have found this challenging.
There were a number of talks and events during the scheme, to which we were all encouraged to go. These meetings were very interesting, as they gave us an insight into what a career in law might look like.
I accepted the job they offered me at the end of the scheme.
The Culture
Everyone seemed to get on well, and we went out for drinks on several occasions.
I am not too familiar with London prices, but the area did seem quite expensive.
It seemed fine -- we went to a couple of bars and clubs around the local area.
There were a number of social events (such as department parties, etc.) which were put on during the two weeks.
